This mood board was inspired by a trip to the Oregon Coast last year. The yarn is my first hand spun on my spindle.

Here are a couple photos that have colors that I like--I think. It is interesting for me to note that these are not colors I usually wear or that I would think of putting in clothing. Will be interesting to see where this leads. I do like the mood collages posted so far, the caterpillar and butterflies and the autumn lake--nice job. I like the electronic mood board too--is that how you did the caterpillar one?

I'm still working on my board--here's my inspiration:

I've started swatching black, green, and yellow cottons from my stash using garter stitch and various slip stich ideas from Barbara Walker's books, such as Corn on the Cob. This could turn into a really wild tee!

Autumn Mood Board

I'm really intrigued by this process. I'm going to start with an Autumn mood board since the leaves are already changing here in Maine. To begin the board, I'm going to use this photo, taken at our lake in the fall of last year. I'm curious about what size mood boards everyone is making. I can't wait to see what you are all doing!

Finding summer

I bought this book last week, and, as Peggy notes in her post, at first got distracted by the notion that I had to tear things out of magazines in order to participate. Then I had the idea of sitting on the back steps with my coffee and just looking around for things that would suggest what I should tear out of magazines supposing I was going to do that. Just by sitting still and really looking, I spotted 4 beautifully striped caterpillars (black swallowtail butterflies in the making) on my fennel, 2 tiger swallowtails on my butterfly bush, and assorted bees on my mint. So already I can see a possible theme of both color (black, yellow, green) and pattern (stripes!). I'm thinking that my mood board is going to be a composite of photos--sort of like digital scrapbooking.

My LYS does not have the book, so I am going to purchase it online. I am very excited about this, not sure why I never thought of it before. For years I have been pasting magazine pictures in my sketch books for jewelry design inspiration. I sew, knit, make jewelry and recently started spinning. My workbench is covered in found objects! Now I have a way to store them in a user friendly way and hopefully break through my most recent creative block.

I love the idea of doing a mood collage. I hardly see or get any magazines any more though so I may have to take photos or find pictures on the Internet. Paint chips I can do! Don't know. I am also trying to figure out how to do the mood collage itself electronically--building the graphic of it on the computer. I am not sure I will be able to create my own as much as be able to look at those already created and saying I like that one, etc.

The Inspired to Knit Mood Board Knitalong and Project is a place for you to share photos of your own mood boards, and the knitwear inspired by them. What is a mood board? It’s simply a collage that tells a “story” or creates a particular mood that can be translated into your handknits. Inspired to Knit author and designer Michele Rose Orne goes through this exercise when she begins her knitwear design process, and we thought it would be a fun and easy way for you to exercise your creativity too!

WHEN AND HOW TO GET STARTED

This KAL and Project will last for one year, until the end of summer 2009, and you can jump in any time. You might create a mood board for your favorite season, or participate year-round and make something for all four seasons.

If you live in the Northern Hemisphere join us in June by creating your summer knitting Mood Board. Knitters in the Southern Hemisphere may want to start with winter Mood Boards. This is a no-rules project, and you are not required to have a blog to participate.
